This California resort city is located along Big Bear Lake within the San Bernardino Mountains. Big Bear Lake was explored in 1845 by Benjamin Davis Wilson and had been home to Serrano Native Americans. It was named after grizzly bears, which are now extinct in the state of California. Big Bear Lake shouldn't be confused with nearby Big Bear City. Points of interest are Bear Mountain, Big Bear Alpine Zoo, Castle Rock Trail, Boulder Bay Park, Big Bear Discovery Center, Snow Summit and Big Bear Historical Museum.
