More than 2,500 Terrazzo and brass stars bearing the names of the entertainment industry's brightest acts are paved in the sidewalks running for 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles. The Hollywood Walk of Fame honors actors, musicians, directors, producers, broadcasters, music groups and fictional characters who have achieved a certain level of success in their careers. Construction on the walk began in 1958 with 1,558 names chosen for the first layout and many including Hollywood Chamber of Commerce former president E.M. Stuart and Hollywood Improvement Association former president Harry Sugarman have been credited with thinking up the Walk of Fame idea.
