The city of Melbourne is located in the Brevard County, Florida and is the second largest city in the county. The city extended in size in 1969, when neighboring city Eau Gallie merged with Melbourne over a mutual vote between the two cities. Melbourne was founded in 1867 by former slaves after the Civil War and was originally called Crane Creek. Melbourne is known for preserving some of its original buildings and businesses, including the Greater Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church which was founded in 1885 and continues to still be active.
