A neighborhood in downtown Seattle, Pioneer Square received its named during the founding of the city of Seattle, as it was the original city centre. Today it is listed under the U.S. National Registry of Historic Places as the Pioneer Square-Skid Road Historic District, and the architecture of the buildings reflect the styles at the city's founding. The Square houses the Fallen Firefighter Memorial, a group of bronze statues by Hai Ying Wu meant to honor the died protecting the Seattle International District during a fire in 1995.
