Originally founded by Mormon pioneers in 1851, the Utah city of Spanish Fork is also known as the first permanent Icelandic settlement in the U.S. due to the influx of Icelandic settlers during western expansion. Despite its largely Latter Day Saint population, the city hosts a variety of diverse cultural festivals, such as Icelandic Days, Harvest Moon Hurah, and the Festival of Colors at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple. The city has made efforts in the expansion of green technology, completing the Spanish Fork's Wind Project in 2008 and planning to open a new hydroelectric dam at the mouth of Diamond Canyon.
